my latest works deal with the idea of fragments and the connection. feeling rather than knowing. choosing instinct over logic to achieve desire rather than defined outcomes. the chaos of volcanoes, the collapse of an avalanche, the weight of an anchor. the idea of buoyancy over balance. some locks do not open with keys. this is a world where candy canes grow at the tops of mountains. freedom comes from belief and choice, and all things are connected.
decided to try something new…i am going to put 5 pieces on sale for a week, and then replace them at the end of the week with five different pieces. not sure how long i will keep this up, but i plan to do it each week with five different paintings as long as people are expressing interest.
who wants to come paint and mexico? still a few spots left. learn about my techniques and ideas about finding yourself within your work. find purpose and understanding in your work by following feelings rather than logic to arrive at imagery that is personal and hidden in abstraction waiting to be found. become engaged in your process by finding techniques that reveal forms and imagery rather than struggling with perfection.. this 5 day workshop takes place at hacienda mosaico in puerta vallarta mexico. the grounds are amazing a perfect place to forget the rest of the world and dig deep into your creative process. all skill levels welcome.

“Bubble Gum Geometry happened, it was not conceptualized. It is a progression and extension of my ongoing experimentation with the process of abstraction and expressionism… a place where I act and react to my process, guided by mark, shape, and color interactions, and feelings more than form. The outcome is unknown and non directed. The directives are fueled by feelings rather than clear ideas or imagery.”
The Jupiter Hotel has been an incubator for small businesses and a supporter of the arts. The First Friday event is an opportunity to treat attendees to a variety of sensory stimulation and support the local artisans that make Portland a unique and wonderful place to live.
Jan 29th – Feb 4th this will be a special workshop focusing on large scale work. this is thanks to the expansive facilities at the hacienda.
it will be the closest look you can expect to get at my process, ideas, techniques, and methods. with techniques that promote introspection, through random actions, methods and expressions. the perfect amount of time to take on a project of large scale and really get a feel and full experience of how to best engage in these techniques.
there will also be plenty of time to step away or into the pool to get a fresh perspective on our work.
In March I gave a speech in Chicago at the national Art Educators yearly conference called “Ambition over direction” I spoke in front of over 200 people. You can watch it via the link below, I talk about why I do what I do and how I got to where I am…
