Kecia Deveney & Seth Apter Workshop at True Measure

September 19th, 2017

Hey everyone! Just wanted to give a heads up that two of my east coast artist friends will be making my studio their weekend home, April 2018. Kecia Deveney (keciadeveney.com) and Seth Apter (http://thealteredpage.blogspot.com) will be teaching their workshop, Field Guide to Altered Avians, April 12-15 at True Measure Gallery. A mixed media, recycle/upcycle, sculptural class; Altered Avians will be about creating a dimensional bird sculpture utilizing a variety of techniques. All skill levels welcome. The best part? Two instructors for the price of one!  Now that I’ve piqued your curiosity, you can read all about the workshop here.  (http://www.glendasmiles.com/field-guide-to-altered-avians/#guests)

I have a new album available on my bandcamp page for my Ugly Bootleg project.

Check out Heroes and Icons here…

https://jessereno.bandcamp.com/album/heroes-and-icons

heroes and icons is a collage of sound made up of childrens records, hip hop beats, field recordings of street music and captured sounds forced together with a live performance sampler, a record player and cdj. creating a time and place made up of many different and distinct eras that create mental images of a time gone by but still ever present in our media driven society. crackling records, black and white television commercials, lost cassette recordings from family vacations, and other lost memories.

Portland Monster Drawing Rally III

July 5th, 2017

I will be one of the artists participating in this event…
July 14, 2017 @ 6:00 pm – 9:30 pm

The Monster Drawing Rally returns for a third year of drawing under the summer stars! A drawing event and fundraiser featuring more than 75 Portland-based artists, Monster Drawing Rally is part performance, part laboratory, part art bazaar—an incredible opportunity to watch some of your favorite Portland artists create original drawings from a blank page. The event begins promptly at 6 p.m. in the Museum’s courtyard and consists of three one-hour rounds that each feature approximately 25 different artists drawing simultaneously. As the drawings are completed, they are immediately hung up and made available for a flat price of $35 each. If more than one person wants to purchase a particular work, the winner will be determined by drawing straws. Proceeds support free school and youth programs at the Museum. The Monster Drawing Rally provides a unique opportunity to watch a drawing come to life, and to purchase a work of art minutes after its completion.

Bring the Family!
The Museum will also feature the Li’l Monster Drawing Rally, a section where children and families may sit, draw, and display their work for the evening.

Opening reception JULY 15th at the bG Gallery from 6 – 9 pm.

The World’s Most Adorable Art Critic, Daniel Rolnik, has curated a group art show dedicated to food.

“The Food Show” includes the following 50 artists: Adam Roth, Alden Marin, Alex Chiu, Annabel Osberg, Big Tasty, Bill Miller, Bradford J Salamon, Charlotte Goff, Daniel Edwards, Dave Kloc, Dave Quick, David Buckingham, David Friedman, Douglas Alvarez, Eva Lacey, Hilary Pfeifer, Jake Weigel, Jamie Polancic, Jermaine Rogers, Jesse Reno, John Kilduff, Joseph Remnant, JoshR, Justin Decou, Kat Philbin, KROSSD, L.A. GOAL, Laura Atchinson, LITTLE FRIENDS OF PRINTMAKING, Mark Hanauer, Mary Delioussina, Mayon Hanania, Melissa Monroe, Mike Boston, Mike Egan, Miles Lewis, Nancy Larrew, Noah Malloy, Dr. Paul Koudounaris, PooJazzle, Porous Walker, Robert Branaman, Rodman Edwards, Sarah Stone, Shaun Berke, Steven Snyder, Terri Berman, Trace Mendoza, Travis Millard, Tripper Dungan, XVALA, and Zachary Aronson.

“I feel blessed to be able to work with artists of all ages, genders, religions and races. This exhibit is truly an unprecedented egalitarian art experience.” says curator, Daniel Rolnik. “It’s truly breathtaking!”

All of the artists in this show were chosen because of the light-bearing and healing qualities that emit from their work. Though, invisible to the naked eye, Daniel has become adept at recognizing these subconscious actions through careful observations made at his dinner parties. The food and acts of eating depicted in the paintings, sculptures, tapestries and more are containers from which good vibes will travel and ultimately make their way through the digestive system of guests to the exhibit.
